ORIGIN

Why we do this

Dungeon Master of Ceremony started with the intent to help bring people out of their shell.

Games – played with like minded folk – are a safe way to share a piece of yourself. The rules give us parameters for interaction. The story gives us direction for expression. The world building gives us a framework for creativity.

This stage is yours, step onto it.

This is the greatest hobby in the world!

Roleplaying games are the most interactive and spontaneous way to engage in storytelling. Storytelling, at its core, is the most engaging way to share yourself with another person. Sharing yourself is intimately tied to knowing yourself – which is key to accomplishing anything of real value.

If we can help people learn to share authentically from their imagination, in real time, in community with other people, we believe that can be one simple step toward real personal growth.

The Rewards Outweigh the Risks

As I spent a year on intense, guided self reflection, I began to make sense of a lifetime of avoidance. Of seeking knowledge instead of gaining wisdom through trial and mistakes. We gain dividends through risk – in other words, putting yourself out there – in other words, vulnerability.

That’s what I’ve decided to build the company around welcoming in folks who’re ready to be positive, open, and creative. In other words, to embrace the best parts of nerdiness, and let the worst inclinations fall away.

Contact Your Dungeon Master

Now, let’s get detailed about how we can help you start playing the game you see in your imagination!

Frequently Asked Questions

Pick your game night from the schedule here. This will reserve me as your Dungeon Master for that evening. Then follow the links under Pick Your Game Night to pay for the package you want.

I’ll reach out to you thru email to finalize details such as the type of game you’re looking for, character creation, duration of the game, and whether you have special concerns that need to be addressed.

  • For live games, Nothing! Just bring yourself and a willingness to try coming out of your shell a bit. I provide characters, dice, pencils etc for beginner games. You can bring your favorite pen and pad if you want to take notes on what happens in the game. If you’re a veteran, you are free to use all your own gear, and to make your own characters.

  • For online games, you’ll need a microphone, Discord app on phone or computer for voice, and that’s pretty much it! I use Owlbear Rodeo for the map, dice rolling, and text chat

We establish safety tools and talk to the group at the beginning of each session to make sure we’re making all players comfortable. I’ll introduce myself and players will do the same. You’ll have time to look over the characters and see who you’d like to play. I’ll tell you a little about the setting and tone of the game. Then we start playing!

My favorite official Dungeons & Dragons setting is Eberron. That’s where we’ll start unless you want to talk about other options. I have experience in sci-fi (official Star Wars among others), samurai inspired worlds, and even gothic horror! I’m also interested in trying real-world inspired settings like kids-on-bikes style high school games.

I value your time, so I make sure to keep the pace brisk. Your comfort and fun are the whole point, so we also take that seriously.

You can expect the default to be a heroic fantasy tone. While the characters may be motivated by anything you like, I find it makes the most sense when the player characters are ultimately good guys. Typically, the game includes descriptions of fighting monsters of various types, so there is the potential that people may find that uncomfortable.

We will always communicate and use safety tools to ensure that players have an idea what to expect. We avoid focusing on subject matter that you communicate is traumatic to you. The nature of roleplaying is fluid, so all kinds of wild things may come up. If you ever feel uncomfortable let your DM know and we’ll do our level best to make this a safe space!

I encourage you to join the Discord. It’s free, and I’m active on there. Our community can probably answer any other questions! You can also contact me directly thru the contact form. I do read everything, but I may not respond be as fast.
